Furniture used to last a generation. Then the industry moved to bonded leather that peels, particle-board frames, and cushions you can't re-fluff. The pattern shows up in thousands of reviews: it looks great for nine months, sags by year two, and goes to the curb by year three. That is not a couch. That is a subscription.
And no, you can't research your way out of it online. Reviews are gamed, and comfort is personal: the exact chair one person loves, their spouse can't stand. There is only one honest test, and it involves sitting down. That is why the gallery exists.
Be wary of "genuine leather" and "authentic leather product". Those phrases exist so a maker can hide how little leather is actually in it. That is the stuff that peels off in sheets a year in. Everything on our floor is top grain.
Real top grain is too thick for a pet's claws to get through in normal use. The thin faux and bonded compounds are nowhere near that thick. They will not survive ordinary wear, let alone a dog.
Leather is one of the few upholstery materials that gets better with age. The patina is the point. A wipe down and conditioner twice a year and these pieces run past twenty.
